Mothers Day

Mother’s day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May. Oliver Wendell Holmes says “The real religion of the world comes from women much more than from men - from mothers most of all, who carry the key of our souls in their bosoms”. The day was set as an official holiday in 1914 after more than a century of women meeting locally to promote the idea. Our mothers do s0 many things for us. According to some unknown sources mother is the one who understands what his child does not say. There is a Jewish proverb stating “God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers”.

  1. Ritu, I believe you are right. There is something about the biological bond between mother and child that cannot be explained. Sharing the same body for 9 months let's mothers get a head start on fathers. It is not that I think mothers are better or somehow emotionally more connected to their offspring, but a mother can tell a newborn's cry and what it means, while a father has to learn. My own mother has that Jewish proverb on a pillow.
